In order to be considered for admission to the Doctoral Programme, the following selection and admission process will be followed:
- Expressions of Interest
Submission of applicant’s written two-page essay, past research experience and bibliography to the Panel of Supervisors. - Short-listing
The Panel of Supervisors – drawn from the participating faculties – evaluates the expressions of interest received and makes a short-list of applicants - Presentations / Interviews
Short-listed applicants are invited to Stellenbosch University during September 2009 to present their ideas in person and to be interviewed by the Supervisory Panel. - Final Selection
The Supervisory Panel selects the final list of successful students and assigns multi-disciplinary teams of supervisors and co-supervisors to each student. - Study Contracts
Successful candidates are offered three-year study contracts, subject to the relevant University’s terms and conditions. - Provisional Registration
Upon written acceptance of study contracts, successful candidates are provisionally registered during October 2009. Such provisional registrations are subject to final proposals being accepted by their faculty of registration within six months from date of registration. - Research Proposals
Students, in collaboration with their co-supervisory teams, commence with the preparation of their research proposals. - Core Modules
Students and supervisors attend Core Modules during Jan / Feb 2010, using this opportunity to enhance and refine research proposals. - Final Research Proposals
Students submit their final research proposals during March / April 2010 – subject to faculty / departmental admissions procedures and timelines.
