Selection & Admission Process

In order to be considered for admission to the Doctoral Programme, the following selection and admission process will be followed:

  1. Expressions of Interest
    Submission of applicant’s referenced written two-page essays, CV and certified copy of Masters Degree to the Panel of Supervisors (via the Programme Coordinator: John van Breda - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
  2. Short-listing
    The Panel of Supervisors – drawn from the participating faculties  – evaluates the expressions of interest received and makes a short-list of candidates.
  3. Attendance of Core Modules
    Short-listed candidates are invited to attend the Core Modules during the Transdisciplinary Summer School in February 2012.
  4. Final Selection
    Short-listed candidates are required to submit a concept research proposal to the Supervisory Panel two weeks after attendance of the Summer School. The Supervisory Panel selects the final list of successful students and assigns multi-disciplinary teams of supervisors and co-supervisors to each student.
  5. Study Contracts
    Successful candidates are offered three-year study contracts, subject to the relevant University’s terms and conditions.
  6. Provisional Registration
    Upon written acceptance of study contracts, successful candidates are provisionally registered in their faculties / department of registration, subject to final proposals being accepted by their faculties / departments of registration within six months from date of registration.
  7. Finalising and Submitting Final Research Proposals
    Students, in collaboration with their co/supervisors, commence with the preparation of their final research proposals. Submission of final research proposals occur during the months of April and May 2012 - subject to faculty / departmental admissions procedures and timelines.
