The Doctoral Programme normally begins with course work in January, covering the following areas:
- Complexity Theory & Complex Systems - Dates: 6 - 10 February Presenters: Jannie Hofmeyr and Rika Preiser Venue: Room 1020: A I Perold Building, Stellenbosch University
- Transdisciplinary Theory & Methodology - Dates: 13 - 17 Feb Presenters: Joske Bunders(tbc), Barbara Regeer and Roland Scholz Venue: Sustainability Institute
- Sustainability & Sustainable Development - Dates: 27 February - 3 March Presenters: Mark Swilling & Eve Annecke Venue: Sustainability Institute
These core modules are not credit bearing. The dissertation is the only credit-bearing component of the programme. However, written assessment of a thorough understanding of the material recovered during these modules will be a requirement for proceeding with the programme. For the duration of the Doctoral Programme students will be required to attend and actively participate in a regular postgraduate seminar series, to present and discuss their work-in-progress with fellow students and their supervisors as well as for furthering dialogue on relevant sustainability issues and problems.
